Time to Head Out

The packing is complete, and all the home arrangements are finished [we hope].  We leave home early on January 5 and will spend the night in a nice hotel in Miami with many of the other passengers.  Buses will transport us to the ship for embarkation on Tuesday morning.

Vista

The Oceania Vista is a cruise ship, launched in 2023, known for its focus on fine dining with new venues like Ember and Aquamar Kitchen, stylish all-veranda accommodations, and an intimate guest capacity of around 1,200, offering a high crew-to-guest ratio for personalized service.

Our itinerary is broken into segments.  About half the passengers will stay on the ship for 180 days as it circumnavigates the world.  The other half will just stay on board for one segment, in this case, Miami to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.   We will keep well clear of Venezuela.

  Mar 9-13 The Pacific Having left San Diego with a new set of passengers, we headed into the Pacific Ocean, with the destination of Hawaii which takes five seadays.  Many more around the world passengers joined us who will travel from San Diego, around the world, and end in Miami, a total of 550.  The Pacific Ocean is massive, with an incomprehensible amount of water covering 1/3 of the Earth’s surface, including the Mariana Trench, which reaches depths of nearly 36,000 feet, which is deeper than Mount Everest is tall. A New Year, a New Adventure

 As 2026 approaches, new adventures are on the horizon.  Yes, another 180-day world cruise starting on January 6 from Miami, Florida.  Our cruise line is Oceania, and we will be residing on the new ship, Vista.   In 2022, we were on the Insignia, Oceania's world cruise ship, for the full 180 days.  Because of the remnants of COVID, our itinerary was significantly changed:  mid-ocean.  A complete circumnavigation did not happen, and it became a very exciting mystery cruise. Here We Go

Jan 5 Our friends took us to the airport for the early departure, and our flight was uneventful.  A minibus took us to the very lovely Miami Biltmore Hotel, all included in our voyage.  The weather was in the mid-60s, but apparently, the hotel has no heating system due to its very warm climate. [Click on the photos to make them larger] Jan 6 The next morning, four buses took us to the cruise terminal.  At check-in, the process was very slow as they verified that each person had all the required visas for our long voyage.  A good time to mingle with the other world travelers in line.  We boarded the ship about 3:30pm, just in time to get a bite to eat at the pool bar.
